Adoption Policies and Guidelines
Adkins Pet Center is a no-kill animal organization that is dedicated to placing animals with families and individuals who are committed to their pet's needs for life. Because we only look for loving and responsible pet guardians, we have an application process required for all adoptions.
- Complete an adoption application and submit it to us.
- Applicants will be notified via email or phone whether or not they have been approved for adoption. Approval considerations include:
- Interviews with an Adkins Pet Center representative
- Veterinarian and personal recommendation based on past petcare
- Pet/Adopter compatibility
- Home visits when necessary
- Pet interactions may be required before approval
 Upon approval, we will set up a time with you to visit Adkins Pet Center where you can choose your pet and sign an adoption contract.- Adoption fees:
- $200 for puppies under 1 year old
- $160 for dogs ages 1-5 years
- $100 for dogs over 5 years
- $100 for kittens under 1 year old
- $75 for cats 1-5 years
- $50 for cats over 5 years
- After you have signed an adoption contract, a 10 day trial period is arranged.
- If at any time you are unable to keep your pet, he/she must be returned to Adkins Pet Center
- If you return your pet within the 10 day trial period, the donation fee is refundable
- After the 10 day trial period, the donation fee in no longer refundable
Adopting a pet is a big decision that requires a lifetime commitment of love and responsibility. Before deciding to bring a pet into your home, be sure that you are a ble and willing to provide the minimum care requirements necessary for any pet:
- Inside shelter
- Food, water, love, attention
- Veterinary care: routine and emergency
- Appropriate exercise and training
- Care for when you are away
